Overview

This body of work is a less agitated representation of control. A becoming of comfort. Am I

growing to respect its enormity, its complexity, or am I simply accepting of the humane

desire to ‘control’.

The focus on movement explicates thought in a visual format. The paintings present a

colossal intimacy, where figures feel larger than reality, as large as the mind, yet equally

ephemeral. A simplified colour palette intensifies tone, gesture and mark-making in an

ethereal realm, warmly connecting the viewer in a familiar, yet otherworldly way. An

invitation to explore the body of work as a chasm of the mind, interconnected and

interdependent where fluidity passes over each work, in subject and style, painting a

narrative of mental movement and conversation with the self. Here, it's heard out loud.

It's felt, as neither pleasure nor pain, just a psychological abstraction.

The inclusion of dance is equal parts the exhibition as what is demonstrated through

painting. An exchanging collaboration to convey the idea. As the abstract figurative poses

are represented through visual language, the emotive representations are conveyed by the

'entering into' and 'exiting from' with an experience of movement. This contextualises the

frames for the viewer, providing a metaphorical 'source', and subsequent 'impact'

.
