Michael Fikaris Australia

Biography

Michael Fikaris is an Australian born visual artist working on the meditation of survival and the changing impressions of environmental influence. A practice spanning drawing, painting and installation has taken him to a diversity of artist residencies including France, Timor Leste, Germany, Indonesia and Portugal. His work is held in permanent collections locally with National Gallery of Victoria (Living Artists Collection) and National Gallery of Australia (Book Arts Collection).

Alongside his artistic oeuvre, Fikaris is a comic book editor and community arts worker, which has allowed him to work extensively on projects locally and internationally with various communities as well as art institutions and educational bodies. Fikaris has been coordinating printed artist anthologies, live events and tours under the name Silent Army since 2007 and in 2017 was awarded the Platinum Ledger Award for outstanding service to Australian comics. In 2021 he continues to work and study locally and is a visiting fellow with IPCS.
