Deborah Walker Australia
Deborah Walker's paintings are often seen to be of of simple, commonplace things, yet on closer viewing they suggest a more mysterious, unnameable quality . Whether it is objects, people or scenes, their dreamlike under-current engages a truth beyond simple language.
Walker's imagery is framed around a personal narrative, one that evokes a female experience. Yet key to this envisioning of people and events is that they are not fixed entities in a measurable world. Rather that these fig-ures can be seen as things entwined in mysteries, ones that are seemingly resistant to be fully known or understood. They are figures and stories that exist as enigmatic presence in a world of Dionysion undercurrents.
While the ultimate truth of these chronicles my be unknowable, her enigmatic imagery offer a unifying vision of enduring solace.
For two decades Walker has regularly exhibited nationally, throughout Australia as well as had solo exhibitions in U.S.A. and Germany. Her career has a sustained focus on the metaphysical and philosophical as subject matter. Her work has been consistently represented in many national Australian art prizes and she has been the recipient of Arts Grants and Residencies during this time. Her visual arts studies have included undergraduate degrees and a number of post-graduate qualification while also lecturing in Visual Arts in her field of practice.
