Broken Fingaz Israel

Biography

Artists Deso, Tant and Unga have worked together for two decades.
Emerging from the graffiti scene as the collective Broken Fingaz, their site-
responsive monumental scale murals, sometimes painted with improvised
tools and giant paintbrushes, applied with action painting methods,
can be seen around the world.

In this new body of oil, acrylic and pastel paintings, the trio work on a smaller,
more intimate scale, but with the same concern for experimenting with
painterly techniques and brushwork. Drawing on artistic languages from their
mixed Jewish, Mediterranean, Eastern European and Soviet heritage,
the artists turn their attention to their own surroundings and family home life.
The subject matter touches on a recurring theme across all of the group’s
work in various mediums (sculpture, painting, installation and animation),
the taut tension between ‘collectivity’ and ‘community’ and individuality and
ego, or more broadly, between what happens outside and inside the home.
This percolating, persistent friction is rooted in the group’s very practice
as a trio who create both collaborative and individual works.
