Autopilot is a reflection on and critique of automation within our modern society. Focusing on the Contemporary Sublime, a technique developed by Andreas Gursky in which a post-modern exploration on the societal hive mind approach to living is examined, Rashe extends his analysis to encompass Artificial Intelligence and the crucial influence it plays on human development.

Autopilot will include painted work and sculpture, where the impetus for Rashe's creative process encompasses manualist approaches to art making. Here, as artist, he is able to posit the dichotomy between the real world and the virtual or automatic, where motifs such as graphical brush strokes and textures represent a found harmony within spontaneous composition.

Rashe is a French artist and graphic designer born in 1989. In the year 2000 he discovered graffiti and moved to Paris. After graduating with a degree in Graphic Design, he now lives and works in Melbourne, creating murals and paintings alongside art projections and freelance design work. Rashe's work has evolved from illustrative compositions to more abstract pieces exploring technology and its impact on society. This work has developed from drawings and paintings to interactive installations and assemblage.

After 10 years of painting outdoors, Rashe has been included in various notable group shows, publications and street art festivals worldwide. He exhibited his first solo show in Melbourne in 2015. Recently he has dedicated the majority of his time to studio work, honing his aesthetic and exploring the conceptual basis of his practice.

Since our beginnings, Backwoods has always fostered local and young artists. As we move into the future, Backwoods Forewoods aims to stay true to this ethos, fostering relationships with the next generation of up and coming Australian artists. Through this program, Backwoods Forewoods will spotlight young and local talent through a series of weekend exhibitions designed to support and promote our favourite emerging artists.
