EMBRACE THE FOLD
Gabriel Cole’s new exhibition, Embrace the Fold, is an opportunity for exploration and reflection on natural abstraction, automatism, and the synergy found within varied elements from nature. Through an array of mediums, Cole explores these layers or ‘folds’ through which the deconstruction of natural, organic, biotic symbols and motif’s enable him to engage with the world around him.
Cole’s artistic process begins with automatic drawing, a technique developed by André Breton in the early 20th Century. Here, by disengaging with reason and calculation to favour an unpremeditated and uncontrolled pouring forth of visual language, Cole posits both visual and conceptual synergies between his work and the folds in nature he wishes to explore. ‘Embrace the Fold’ will include painted and drawn works on paper, canvas and glass, as well as sculptural ceramics.
Gabriel Cole is a Visual Artist, Designer and former Paralympic athlete currently based in Melbourne. His practice explores two dimensional forms with relevance to semiotics, objects, motifs and the inclusion of sport as a visual, physical and emotional graphic form. Cole manipulates these structures and images through a decorative art style that has ties to fashion, design, graffiti, mark making and sign painting. His work is held by various corporate and private collections across Australia, with clients including Nike Skateboarding, Etica Adelaide and Bizarro Records.

Gabriel manipulates theses structures and images considering music as an image not just a sound. These ideas are juxtaposed through a decorative art style that has ties to fashion, design, graffiti, mark making and sign painting. His work is held by various clients across Australia.
Embrace The Fold will be Cole’s sixth exhibition since moving from Adelaide to Melbourne in 2017. Cole’s new exhibition will feature new mixed media work on paper and glass as well as a new series of ceramics.
